Description
Temperature-dependent Moessbauer experiments have been carried out to examine the lattice-dynamic properties of tin atoms in complexes of the type (n-CnH2n+1NH3)2SnCl6 (6 ≤ n ≤ 12). The temperature dependence of the area intensity of Moessbauer lines for the studied complexes are correlated to the motion of long alkyl chains. Solid-solid phase transitions were clearly found in all the complexes above room temperature, accompanied by an increase in the interlayer spacing (6 ≤ n ≤ 18). The transition temperature and transition entropy increase linearly with the number of carbon atoms in alkyl chains. (orig.)
