Description
Monte Carlo simulation is considered to be the most accurate and detailed calculation method in different fields of medical physics like medical imaging, radiotherapy, radiation protection, etc. Monte Carlo simulation of radiation transport in the medical accelerators and modeling of the treatment machine head improves understanding of clinical beam characteristics, helps accelerator designing and improves the accuracy of clinical dosimetry by providing more realistic beam data. EGSnrc/BEAMnrc can model different treatment heads of medical linear accelerators, using the different component modules ranging from simple slab to complex MLCs. The aim of this study is to simulate the Varian medical linear accelerator (Model: Trilogy TX) for different electron beam energies of 6,9,12 MeV using Monte Carlo EGSnrc/BEAMnrc simulation codes and validation of the simulated beam profiles of different field sizes with experimentally measured beam profiles
