A step forward in the evaluation of hydromorphological status of rivers

The analysis and monitoring of the riverbanks is fundamental in order to be able to carry out a good management of the ecosystems protecting, improving and conserving the ecological state of the water bodies (Magide and Oria de Rueda, 2018). In this line, the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CEE) has promoted fluvial restoration and the improvement of ecological status (González del Tánago et al., 2012). This directive fostered the environmental awareness of many river managers and politicians (Durán et al., 2018).
