Description
At TEXTOR we have the data acquisition system JDAQ for controlling and adjusting different CAMAC modules by providing a standardised view for the users. Within this system the new modules are integrated. This integration benefits from JDAQs multi-tier structure. Only one tier is hardware dependent. For each PCI module a device server is added to this tier. Another tier represents the graphical user interface. It is extended by panels for each PCI module to configure these modules. The dispatch tier is extended by a control handler which pass-through the configuration and control data from the graphical user interface to the device server. Experiences Measuring with PCI modules under JDAQ is possible but the handling of the modules is not as systematic as measuring with CAMAC modules. The implementation of PCI modules exhibits three problems: -) the addressing of the modules within the PCI crate may change if a module is taken out from the crate, or if the computer hardware changes, or after a power-cycle; -) the dependency of the module drivers on a specific version of the device drivers operating system; and -) the freezing of the controlling computer in case of programming and handling failures or hardware problems in the modules.
