Application of time dose fractionation factors for tumours and linear quadratic factor models to postoperative radiotherapy of brain tumours

Description
A retrospective analysis of 60 patients with brain tumours treated with postoperative radiotherapy was carried out. Patients were treated with whole brain dose of 40 to 60 Gy in 20 to 30 fractions in 26 to 47 days by 5 fractions per week schedule. 24 patients received a boost dose of 4 to 20 Gy in 2 to 10 fractions in 2 to 12 days with the same fractionation schedule. Treatment results in terms of response and disease-free survival were correlated with dose, time dose fractionation factors for tumours (TDFt) and linear quadratic factor (LQF). Response and disease-free survival showed increasing trend with dose, TDFt and LQF. TDFt showed statistically significant correlation with response rate (p < 0.05). For favourable response and disease-free survival minimum TDFt and LQF values of 131 and 91Gy are suggested. (author). 21 refs., 3 tabs
