Measurement of 6Li(n,α)3H reaction cross section
Description
The 6Li(n,α)3H reaction cross section was measured at 12 discrete neutron energies between 80 KeV and 470 KeV by using the Oak Ridge Linear Acelerator (ORELA) as a pulsed neutron source. The neutron beam was filtered through 20 cm or 30 cm of Armco iron which produces several monoenergetic energies groups (iron windows) between 20 KeV and 1000 KeV about 2 KeV wide. The (n,α) events were detected by a 1 mm thick Li-glass scintillator and the neutron flux was measured with a NE110 plastic scintillator 6,6 cm thick and 10 cm in diameter. Multiple scattering corrections in the Li-glass and the NE110 scintillator efficiency were determined theoretically by using Monte Carlo technique. The 6Li content in the Li-glasses was determined by transmission measurements with low energy neutrons. A theoretical fit was applied to the results by the R-matrix theory. (Author)

Determinou-se a secao de choque para a reacao 6Li(n,α)3H por metodo absoluto para 12 valores discretos de energia de neutrons compreendidos entre 80 KeV e 470 KeV, utilizando-se o Acelerador Linear de Eletrons de Oak Ridge (ORELA) como fonte pulsada de neutrons. Filtrou-se o feixe de neutrons por 20 ou 30 cm de ferro Armco, que tem a propriedade de produzir varios grupos discretos de energia (janelas de ferro) no intervalo de 20 KeV a 1000 KeV com largura da ordem de 2 KeV. Determinam-se o numero de eventos (n,α) pelo emprego de cintiladores de Li-vidro de 1 mm de espessura e determinou-se tambem o fluxo de neutrons com um cintilador plastico NE110 de 6,6 cm de espessura e 10 cm de diametro. Determinou-se teoricamente a correcao para espalhamento multiplo no Li-vidro e a eficiencia do cintilador NE110 pela aplicacao da tecnica de simulacao de Monte Carlo. Determinou-se o conteudo de 6Li nos detectores por medidas de transmissao com neutrons de baixa energia. Fez-se para os resultados obtidos ajuste teorico pela teoria de matriz-R. (Autor)Files
