Studies related to immobilization of illw in different cement matrices

Description

The suitability of cement matrices for use as a solidifying agent for low and intermediate level radioactive wastes was investigated. The leachability of Cs137 from simulated intermediate-level liquid rad waste solidified with portland cement, blast furnace slag cement and a 50/50 portland/slag cement was investigated using the standard leach test. The solidification process was carried out at optimum waste/ cement ratio of 0.30. The compressive strength as a function of the curing time and after immersion in different leachant for one month has been studied. The obtained results were discussed in terms of the suitability of each matrix for the immobilization of ILLW prior to their transport, storage and disposal.4 tab., 3 fig
