Stabilization of parametric instabilities by boundary plasma electron heating in JFT-2

Description
Parametric instabilities, which bring about undesirable peripheral heat deposition in lower-hybrid-wave (LHW) heating, are stabilized in the JFT-2 tokamak by an effective electron heating in the boundary plasma. The boundary electron temperature rises significantly by simultaneous injection of neutral beams into the plasma, which may be expected to improve the heating efficiency of LHW in the main plasma.
