Multiple-neutral-meson decays of the τ lepton

Description

A review is presented of the status of the τ decays with multiple neutral mesons in the final states. These decay modes are the least understood and have the greatest potential of solving the discrepancy in the one-charged-particle decay branching ratios. Several experiments have observed that the branching ratios into multiple-neutral-meson final states are higher than expected. A solution to this excess is proposed which at the same time also solves the one-charged-particle decay problem. (author) 36 refs., 5 tabs
