Velocity interferometer data reduction beyond optical delay limitations

  • 1. Plasma Group, Soreq NRC, Yavne 81800 (Israel)

Description

In the present paper we are presenting improved methods of how to evaluate Velocity Interferometer data of very high strain rate experiments. Using a 100 ps laser pulse and a 10 μm aluminum target, a strain rate of ∼ 6·109 s-1 has been obtained. In addition, for that particular experiment, we compare the spall pressure, calculated using the commonly accepted formula and the exact pressure calculated from the Equation Of State and obtained a difference of ∼50%
