On a relationship of magnetic and electric diffusion of energetic ions in the Earth radiation belts

Description

An expression for the electric diffusion coefficient is derived on the basis of electric field power spectrum amplitude analysis within the equatorial radiation belts, testifying to their strong attenuation with the geocentric distance reduction. Comparison of the derived electric coefficient with the magnetic one, which is characteristic of magnetosphere medium-disturbed state (ksub(p) approximately 2), as well as with the diffusion magnetic coefficient, taking into account inhomogeneity availability in a high frequency 1 >5 mHz) geomagnetic field power spectrum zone leads to a conclusion, that electric diffusion may prevail on L-coatings (L>5) and on (L<2). In this case energy electric diffusion predominance interval may reach (depending on electric field power spectrum configuration) approximately 1 MeV/Q on L=6 and approximately 8 MeV on L approximately 1.5 (Q - ion charged state)
