The paper presents the results of a comparative study made of fire protection guidelines for nuclear power plants. Although the main objectives of fire protection codes remain the same, realization of nuclear safety through fire protection may be achieved in different ways. The study outlines the various aspects of fire protection with a view to defining the relevant highlights and scope of an Egyptian guideline that may be proved acceptable and to modifying IAEA Safety Series No. 50-SG-D2.
