Preparation of 167Tm samples from ytterbium target irradiated by 65-100 MeV protons

Description

Formation of 167Tm in nuclear reactions of natural ytterbium with protons of 65 and 100 MeV initial energy was investigated. The data on 165Tm, 167Tm, 168Tm isotope distribution over the thickness of ytterbium target are presented. 165Tm, 167Tm, 168Tm in amounts of 2.2x107, 3.5x107 and 1.1x105 Bq/μAxh respectively form in ytterbium target 4 g/cm2, irradiated by 64±1 MeV protons. The yield of 167Tm from the target 12 g/cm2 equals 1.5x108 Bq/μAxh at Ep=100 MeV, contamination by 165Tm isotope ≥ 200%. Te chnique for separation of Yb and radiothullium using carburization by 0.3% sodium amalgam from acetate solutions with successive ion-exchange purification and concentration of radiothullium preparation was developed. Technique duration ≤ 3 h, the chemical yield ≥ 90%
