Calculated neutron intensities for SINQ

Description

A fully detailed calculation of the performance of the SINQ neutron source, using the PSI version of the HETC code package, was made in 1996 to provide information useful for source commissioning. Relevant information about the formulation of the problem, cascade analysis and some of the results are presented. Aspects of the techniques used to verify the results are described and discussed together with a limited comparison with earlier results obtained from neutron source design calculations. A favourable comparison between the measured and calculated differential neutron flux in one of the guides gives further indirect evidence that such calculations can give answers close to reality in absolute terms. Due to the complex interaction between the many nuclear (and other) models involved, no quantitative evaluation of the accuracy of the calculational method in general terms can be given. (author)
