Geochemical analyses were performed on more than 700 rock samples and 4 oil samples, from Mucuri, Cumuruxatiba and Jequitinhonha basins, offshore Bahia state, Brazil. The methods employed in this study includes the evaluation of organic carbon contents, Rock-Eval pyrolysis, vitrinite reflectance, carbon isotopes, assessment of oils and extrats by liquid and gas chromatography and gas chromatography - spectrometry. Three main source rock systems have been identified in offshore Bahia: the Mucuri shales from Rio da Serra and Aratu Stages lower Neocomian related to a lacustrine fresh water environment; the Jiquia shales (Upper Neocomian) deposited in a lacustrine saline water environment, and the Alagoas Shales related to an evaporitic environment of Aptian age. Foram realizadas analises geoquimicas em mais de 700 amostras de rocha e 4 amostras de oleo das bacias de Mucuri, Cumuruxatiba e Jequitinhonha, no litoral do Estado da Bahia, Brasil. Os metodos empregados neste estudo incluem a avaliacao dos teores de carbono organico, pirolise rock-eval, reflectancia de vitrinita, isotopos de carbono, e analise dos oleos e extratos por cromatografia liquida e gasosa e acoplamento cromatografia gasosa/espetrometria de massas. Tres sistemas principais de rochas geradoras foram identificados: os folhelhos do Mucuri, dos andares Aratu e Rio da Serra, relacionados a ambiente lacustre de agua doce; os folhelhos do Jiquia, depositados em ambiente lacustre de agua salgada, e os folhelhos Alagoas, relacionados a um ambiente evaporitico.
