Application of radiofrequency superconductivity to accelerators for high-current ion beams

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., IL (United States). Engineering Physics Div.

Description

The recent progress in the areas of superconducting accelerator technology for high-current ion beams is outlined. The results point to the intrinsic potential of niobium to provide large accelerating gradients. Theoretical studies results of beam halo formation, cumulative beam breakup and alternating-phase focusing are presented. 28 refs., 5 figs
