Irradiation effects by γ-ray on the spectra of KCl:Pb2+ crystal
Description
Irradiation effects by γ-ray on the spectrum of KCl:Pb2+ single crystal is studied and the following results are obtained: (1) γ-irradiation creates a new absorption band at 255 nm, which is relatively stable for the breach or the strage at room temperature. The intensity of this band is successively increased, saturated and decreased by the increasing exposure. This irradiation also slightly decreases the intensity of A-band. (2) 255 nm absorption intensity is increased a few times for the specimen annealed at 500 deg C for 30 min., but about 1.5 times for that at 600 deg C for 1 week. (3) The emission spectrum excited at A-band of the specimen before irradiation has a widely broadened band in the range of 380-450 nm and may be caused by Pb2+. This emission band is enlarged several times by irradiation. The emission spectra excited at 255 nm-band of the irradiated speciman is much similar to the above one excepting a small shift toward the higher-energy side, and lies in the range of 360-440 nm.
