The Los Alamos liquid hydrogen neutron-moderator system
- 1. Los Alamos National Lab., P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545
Description
A liquid-hydrogen neutron-moderator system was designed, tested, and successfully operated in the Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center (LANSCE). The major system components include a 450-500 W helium refrigerator, a helium/hydrogen heat exchanger, a liquid hydrogen centrifugal pump, and a target chamber. The design and testing of the system are discussed and experimental results presented. To date the target has been subjected to beam currents as high as 35.5 μ a (25W). Suggestions for future improvements are given
