Spiral instabilities and disc heating

  • 1. Cambridge Univ. (UK). Inst. of Astronomy

Description

Existing simulations of disk galaxies take no account of star formation which continually injects low velocity dispersion stars into the disc. In new simulations, the authors mimic this process by adding particles at a constate rate. The heating-cooling equilibrium is discussed as well as the age-velocity dispersion relation. (Auth.)
