Neutron capture of nuclei far from stability

Description
The neutron direct radiative capture (DRC) process and the related model based on its assumptions have been investigated and employed in the calculation of capture cross sections for a family of Carbon isotopes ranging from mass number A=12 to A=18. The importance of incident p- and d-wave neutron capture, in addition to the commonly adopted s-wave capture, is highlighted. Using the DRC model we provide Maxwellian averaged capture cross sections at temperatures of interest for stellar nucleosynthesis as well as for inhomogeneous big-bang model calculations. (author)
