Description

The results of multimodality X-ray, ultrasonic (USI) and computed tomography (CT) investigations of the pancreas in 26 patients with cysts of different sites are given. The results showed that routine X-ray investigation permitted correct diagnosis of a pancreatic cyst in 73% of cases, USI and CT in 88.5%. Small pancreatic cysts could be detected with USI and CT and were undetectable on routine X-ray examination. In pronounced pancreatic changes (a sharp increase in the head and deformity of its shape) routine X-ray examination was found appropriate in order to define the nature of changes in the adjacent organs. CT was found necessary if clinical findings indicated a pancreatic cyst and X-ray and USI brought about no information
