Synthesis of some functional substituted o- and m-carboranes

Description
Some functional derivatives of o- and m-carboranes such as amides, amines and alcohols have been synthesized from 9-o- and 9-m-carboranecarboxylic acidchlorides. From comparison of 1H NMR spectra of N,N-dimethyl-1-o- and -1-m-carboranecarboxamides and -9-o-and -9-m-carboranecarboxamides it follows that in 1-carboranyl dimethylamides π-bonding of carborane polyhedron with carbonyl group of amide is stronger than π-bonding in 9-carboranyl dimethylamides. Oxidation of 9-hydroxymethyl-m-carborane with pyridinium chlochromate gives 9-m-carboranylmethyl 9-m-carboranecarboxylate. 7 refs
