The nature of paramagnetic centers in KNO3 at low-temperature radiolysis

  • 1. Kemerovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Kemerovo (USSR)

Description

ESR spectra of potassium nitrate monocrystal irradiated by X radiation at 77 K are investigated in the range of temperatures from 77 to 38 K. It is shown that in KNO3 irradiated to the dose of 2-3 kGy the absence of balance between electron NO32- and hole centres of ONOO stable at 77 K can be caused by the existence of hole-type complex [NO2, O2], molecular axes of which coincide with the axes of isolated NO2 radical, which is not observed at 77 K due to exchange broadening of the ESR spectrum lines
