Tritium enrichment in the reprocessing of nuclear fuel by the hot/cold isotope exchange process in the hydrogen/water system by means of a new fiber bed catalyst
Description
The aqueous flow of waste occurring in the reprocessing of nuclear fuels contains tritium which must not be returned to the natural water circuit. As the natural decay of radioactivity of the tritium takes a very long time, processes for tritium enrichment were tested. One such process was developed, in which the tritium was only pre-enriched (about 30 times) by the CECE method (combined electrolysis and catalytic exchange). The subsequent high enrichment is then forced in a hot-cold column system. Enrichment experiments were carried out depending on the temperature of the gas and liquid flow and the mole counterflow conditions using this hot/cold system. The basis of the calculations for such a tritium enrichment plant is given. (HWJ)

Die bei der Wiederaufbereitung von Kernbrennstoffen anfallenden waessrigen Abfallstroeme enthalten Tritium, das nicht in den natuerlichen Wasserkreislauf zurueckgegeben werden darf. Da der natuerliche Aktivitaetszerfall des Tritiums sehr lange Zeit in Anspruch nimmt, wurden Verfahren der Tritiumanreicherung erprobt. Eine solche Verfahrensvariante wurde entwickelt, in dem mit der CECE-Methode (Combined Electrolysis and Catalytic Exchange) das Tritium nur vorangereichert wird (etwa 30-fach). Die sich anschliessende Hochanreicherung wird dann in einem Heiss-Kalt-Kolonnensystem erzwungen. Mit diesem Heiss-Kalt-System wurden Anreicherungsversuche in Abhaengigkeit der Temperatur des Gas- und Fluessigkeitsstroms sowie des molaren Gegenstromverhaeltnisses durchgefuehrt. Die rechnerischen Entwurfsgrundlagen einer solchen Tritium-Anreicherungsanlge werden angegeben. (HWJ)Additional details
