Oceanic sediment systems: new approach to study global and regional contaminants
Description
A new approach to the study of global and regional contaminations, based on the laws of sedimentary material formation and its interaction with live matter is considered. Accumulative and purificational functions of the World Ocean are discussed. Regularities of sediment formation and contaminant distribution, including radioactive fallouts after the Chernobyl accident, are presented. Specific attention is paid to historical geoecology and the role of USSR Academy of Sciences in the organization of fundamental study of the ocean ecosystems
