Statistical model for calculating the characteristics of heavy ion nuclear reactions based on the Monte-Carlo method

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR). Lab. of Nuclear Reactions

Description

A Monte Carlo statistical model was adapted to investigate the properties of heavy ion fusion reactions and the nuclei produced in the fusion. Because of the high spin of the reaction products, the angular momentum was treated by a quasiclassical method. The equations for the probability distributions were solved by Monte Carlo method and the results were compared with the experimental data. The statistical model describes well various characteristics of heavy ion induced nuclear reactions in a wide range of the A, Z and the excitation energy of the compound nuclei. From a comparison of the calculated and measured data, information can be gained on the structure and properties of rapidly rotating heated nuclei. (D.Gy.)
