Radioactive loads from measures of diagnostic radiography in the Federal Republic of Germany and their possible effects

The first part of the survey was designed to ascertain the factors mainly accounting for radiation hazards in diagnostic radiography. It informs about the frequency of the most important diagnostic X-ray measures, their distribution over the population's different age groups as well as on the resulting mean effective equivalent dose for the individual citizen as calculated from available data for the former Federal Republic of Germany. Those are the parameters examined for any cancer risk assessment, although no such attempt is made within the boundaries of this report. The second part discusses the findings so far revealed by epidemiologic research and possible links between radiological methods of diagnosis and benign or malignant tumours. (orig./MG)
Abstract (German)
Aufgabe des I. Teils dieser Uebersicht ist es, ueber die Faktoren zu berichten, die wesentlich das Strahlenrisiko durch medizinische Roentgendiagnostik bedingen. Es wird die Haeufigkeit der wichtigsten roentgendiagnostischen Massnahmen, ihre Altersverteilung in der Bevoelkerung und die dadurch erfolgte durchschnittliche effektive Aequivalentdosis pro Kopf der Bevoelkerung anhand der vorliegenden Daten fuer die alte Bundesrepublik Deutschland beschrieben. Dies ist Voraussetzung fuer eine Krebsrisikoabschaetzung, die hier aber nicht durchgefuehrt wird. In einem II. Teil werden die derzeitig vorliegenden Ergebnisse epidemiologischer Forschung referiert, die ueber moegliche Assoziationen von radiologischer Diagnostik und gut- bzw. boesartige Tumoren berichten.
