3.700 m3 radioactive waste per year from governmental institutions reach the repository Konrad. How is this possible?

  • 1. Energiewerke Nord GmbH (EWN), Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen (Germany). Betriebsstaette Karlsruhe

Description

The actualization of the waste amount prognosis by BfS for the repository Konrad have shown that the existing conditioned waste from governmental institutions will produce a delivered amount of 3.700 m3 per year. The transport of this amount is not supposed to be a problem. A more critical point is the documentation of the waste package. Even 5 years after the plan approval not a single waste package documented according the repository requirements is available. During the operation of the repository 450 containers and about 250 barrels per year have to be documented and released. This seems to be a long way.
