Application of J-resistance curves for the prediction fo failure loads of wide plates
Description
The Shih and Kumar engineering approach has been used to predict failure loads of compact specimens and wide plate tests. For two different steels, a pressure vessel steel 20 MnMoNi 5 5 and a structural steel St 52-3, the predicted instability loads are compared with the maximum loads. The material's strain hardening behaviour and the state of stress have to be taken into account to calculate the applied J
