Educational programs in nuclear and radiochemistry at the University of Mainz and in West Germany

  • 1. Universitaet Mainz (West Germany)

Description

Scientists trained in nuclear and radiochemistry are required in a number of areas such as nuclear medicine, nuclear energy, nuclear waste isolation or in monitoring of the environment. In the education and training of students, one must consider that in nuclear and radiochemistry the use of radioactivity and nuclear techniques combined with the knowledge and methodology of chemistry is very important. A report is given on the educational programs in this field in West Germany with special emphasis on the activities at the University of Mainz and also at the Technical University of Munich. In these two institutions, most of the scientists in nuclear and radiochemistry are now being produced, including Ph.D. graduates
