Temperature dependence of the nuclear alignment of 69Ge and 67Zn in copper metal

  • 1. State Univ. of New York, Stony Brook (USA). Dept. of Physics

Description

In order to study the effects of radiation damage on implanted impurities, the reactions 65Cu(7Li,3n)69Ge and 65Cu(7Li,αn)67Zn have been used to produce probe nuclei in natural, polycrystalline copper metal. The half-lives of the isomeric 9/2+ states in 69Ge and 67Zn are 2.8 μsec and 333 nsec, respectively. An external magnetic field of about 9 kG was applied and the perturbed angular distribution of the decay γ-rays was measured at target temperatures varying from 175 K to 1230 K. (Auth.)
