Activities of national and local government bodies of the Byelorussian SSR

Paper is devoted to the activities of the Byelorussian Republican and local authorities linked with the elimination of the Chernobyl accident. Attention is focused on the radiation monitoring, on the prior measures to protect the injured population, on utilization of the contaminated territories, on health-building activities, on the improvement of the control system for the efforts linked with the Chernobyl accident. The situation in Byelorussia as of the end 1989 is estimated. The main tasks of the complex program on the elimination of the CNPP accident in Byelorussia for 1990-1995 and for the period up to 2000 are discussed. 3 figs
