Fuelling progress : one hundred years of the Canadian Gas Association

Description

This book presented the history of the first 100 years of the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) in a broad economic and political context. This national association began in 1907 as Ontario-based gas manufacturers sought to protect and sustain the Canadian natural gas industry in response to the emerging threat of publicly funded hydroelectric competition. By mid-century, the CGA evolved into a major national trade association that represented suppliers of manufactured natural gas and a broad range of related companies in the pipeline, manufacturing and gas-service industries. The Canadian Gas Association currently represents the obligations of the industry and offers support in building the gas market and promoting critical industry issues. Energy services played a key role throughout the course of the twentieth century when Canada grew from a rural-agrarian society to an urban-industrial one. This book also described how the nature of energy services changed rapidly with changing energy needs. The CGA has emerged as a policy organization focused on finding optimal energy solutions for Canada. refs., tabs., figs
