Measurement of the effect of large deformation-aligned ground-state spin on fission fragment anisotropies

Description

The effect on fission fragment anisotropies of the alignment of ground-state nuclear spin with the nuclear deformation axis has been investigated for the reactions 31P+176Lu and 29Si+178Hf, through measurements at a range of energies spanning the fusion barrier. Calculations which reproduce the anisotropies for the 29Si+178Hf reaction only reproduce the anisotropies for 31P+176Lu when the correlation of the seven units of ground-state spin of 176Lu with the nuclear deformation axis is correctly taken into account
