Description
This paper describes a procedure for calculating the total x-ray scattering cross section of a partially ionized high temperature medium Z plasma. The coherent and incoherent scattering cross sections are calculated following the method of Chihara for liquid metals. The static structure factors and electron density distribution were obtained using the HNC-TF procedure, while the free electron static structure factor was obtained from an OCP-HNC calculation. The scattering cross section of 10 and 20 keV photons incident on a 150 eV Fe plasma at natural density are presented. For angles lower than 90 degrees the ion ion static structure factor times the bound coherent scattering dominates the results, while around 90 degrees and above, incoherent scattering is dominant and increases relative to the cold atom case
