Fluidization Tests

Description

The fluidized-bed process to convert (U,Pu)O2 to (U,Pu)C is in the planning and design stage. One source of (U,Pu)O2 for this process would be the ,UF6-PuF6 product of the fluoride volatility fuel reprocessing cycle that is being studied by other groups in this Division. The (U,Pu)O2, on the basis of experimental data for UO2, is expected to have a high bulk density. It is contemplated that carbon will be blended with the oxide during conversion of UF6-PuF6 to (U,Pu)O2, after which the (U,Pu)O2-carbon mixture.will be converted in a high-temperature (1500 to 1700°C) fluidized bed to the monocarbide.
