First experiences with cleanup operations at Three Mile Island

Description
It is sufficient to describe the postaccident conditions that formed the basis for the cleanup efforts performed to date, and those which comprise the work to complete the cleanup and to bring TMI-2 to a safe condition. To achieve an intrinsically safe status, the fuel from the reactor core is to be removed and transported to a repository site for disposal. The site buildings and equipment are to decontaminate. Accomplishment of the majority of the initial gross decontamination work in the reactor building in all areas except basement areas is required. (DG)

Es genuegt, die nach dem Stoerfall vorherrschenden Bedingungen zu beschreiben, die den bis heute durchgefuehrten Reinigungsanstrengungen zugrunde lagen, sowie jene, die die fuer die vollstaendige Dekontamination erforderlichen Arbeiten einschliessen und TMI-2 in einen sicheren Zustand versetzen. Um es grundsaetzlich sicher zu machen, ist der Brennstoff aus dem Reaktorkern zu entfernen und zur Entsorgung in eine Lagerstaette zu transportieren. Die Anlagengebaeude sowie Ausruestung sind zu dekontaminieren. Der Hauptteil der anfaenglichen Grobdekontaminationsarbeiten in allen Reaktorgebaeudebereichen ausser im unterirdischen Bereich muss abgeschlossen sein. (DG)Additional details
