Fuel assembly

Description

Purpose: To increase the neutron moderating effect in the control rod region of a BWR type reactor, thereby making the control rod worth and the void coefficient substantially equal to those in the conventional case even upon use of mixed oxide fuels of uranium and plutonium. Constitution: The fuel assembly comprises a plurality of fuel rods arranged in a lattice-like pattern and mounted to the core of a reactor using light water as coolants. A cross-like control rod is disposed between each of the fuel assemblies. Then, the minimum distance between the surface of the control rod and the surface of the fuel rod is specified in a range between 13 mm - 25 mm. (Seki, T.)
