Radiative processes in atomic collisions at storage rings

Description
We discuss radiative electron capture into excited states of fast, highly charged ions from neutral targets. Capture to high n shells and to low-lying projectile continuum states is studied. We show that capture into excited states can account for up to 50% of the radiative capture cross section at the ''Bremsstrahlung'' threshold. The feasibility of state-resolved measurements at storage rings is discussed
