Current applications of KUR and KUCA
Description
The Kyoto University Reactor (KUR) and the Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA) are the two main facilities of the Research Reactor Institute of Kyoto University (KURRI). These two facilities have been successfully used jointly for research and education by Japanese universities. To strengthen these activities, we have a plan to build a new research reactor, or the Kyoto University High Flux Reactor (KUHFR). Although we were given the legal approval to build this reactor several years ago, it has become necessary to review this project. In view of this, the related research areas are redefined and grouped into four: life sciences, materials sciences, applied neutron sciences and nuclear engineering. Accordingly, some facilities attached to the KUR are being renovated. In this context some current applications of the KUR and KUCA are reviewed. (author)
