Design and fabrication of equipments for 'Monju' by Kawasaki Heavy Industries

Description

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has taken part in the construction of the prototype FBR 'Moju' of Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation as a member of FAPIG and as a direct contract manufacturer. The main facilities that Kawasaki Heavy Industries was in charge of were compressed air facility, the fuel storage tank outside the reactor, fuel pool water cooling and purifying facility, solid waste storage pool and others. In this report, as for these systems and facilities, the purposes of the facilities, the outline of the systems, the design specifications of the systems and the design and manufacture of equipments are described. In the compressed air facility, the design and manufacture of piping system and compressed air unit were carried out. The compressors made by Kachi were used. In the fuel storage tank outside the reactor, the design and manufacture of the storage vessels and sodium and argon systems were carried out. The related equipments were made by Fuji Electric, and those were assembled at the site. As for the fuel pool water cooling and purifying facility, the system design was carried out, and the design and manufacture of the equipments were made by Ebara. In the solid waste storage pool, the system design and the design and manufacture of racks and carriages were carried out. The design and manufacture of the equipment of the cleaning facility were made by Ebara. (K.I.)
