Conceptual design of a superconductive energy and transfer system for a commercial tokamak EF coil
Description
A conceptual design has been developed for a superconducting energy storage coil and a dc-ac-dc three phase converter which match the voltage and current requirements of the equilibrium field (EF) coil in a commercial tokamak reactor. The system can generate 13 kV, 26 kA peak, 15 kA rms for 15 sec to charge or discharge the EF coil. A hypothetical example utilizing this design and component cost analysis are given. The current and voltage profiles for the EF coil presented here were obtained from a February 1979 Argonne National Laboratory technical memorandum1 on power supply requirements for a tokamak.
