Nuclear stopping power and interatomic potentials
Description
Corrections to the Lindhard-Scharff-Schioett theory (LSS) are estimated for elastic scattering of low energy heavy ions by amorphous target atoms. An interatomic potential of the Thomas-Fermi type has been modified to take into account of the screening effect resulting from collective motion of target electrons. For a given impact parameter, an effective closest distance of approach has been considered. Calculated results for the nuclear stopping power of Ne ion in methane and C ion in silicon are presented in the reduced energy range of epsilon=0.1 to 10. (Auth.)
