Isotope geochronology of the surface layer of Lake Baikal benthic sediments
Description
The paper presents the results of the determination of benthic sediments deposition rates in the Baikal Lake as well as the results of the determination of 210Pb concentration at various sedimentation levels. The sedimentation rates were determined by the method of non-equilibrium lead (210Pb), whose upper age limit is 100 years. The estimation average sedimentation rates were 0.34-1.00 mm/year. An average value of integral 210Pb activity in the bottomsetbeds was 0.31 Bq/cm3. A sequential increase of sedimentation rates from 0.24 mm/y about 27 years ago to 1.67 mm/y at the present time is establishesd
