Description
The fabrication of mixed plutonium-uranium carbide fuel pins for FBTR is carried out to stringent specifications. The conformance to these specifications is evaluated through a number of non-destructive test methods. The fissile content in the fuel pin is one of the important specifications, especially with regard to the reactor performance. The FBTR fuel pin consists of fuel pellets, fabricated in lots/batches following the metallurgical powder-pellet route, formed into specified stack lengths and encapsulated in stainless steel tubes, along with other hardware, by welding end-plugs to the tubes
