The kinetics of zirconium mass transfer in a pulsed column

  • 1. Imperial Coll. of Science and Technology, London (UK). Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology

Description

This paper describes some kinetic measurements obtained in a miniature glass pulsed column aimed at simulating the decontamination of fission products in nuclear fuel reprocessing. Zirconium was loaded from 10N HNO3 into an organic phase and back extracted from the organic phase into 3N HNO3. The analytical methods for determining zirconium are described and detailed equilibrium data were obtained. Kinetic measurements in the form of transfer unit heights are presented and compared with kinetic and hydrodynamic data obtained in previous investigations. (author)
