Description
The authors establish by x-ray diffraction analysis that bis(benzoato)bis(dimethyl sulfoxide)dioxouranium(VI) (UO2(C6H5COO)2)OS(CH3)2)2) has an island structure, that the two benzoate ions form two four-membered chelate rings in the equatorial plane of the uranyl ion, and that the dimethyl sulfoxide molecules are coordinated by means of the oxygen atoms. The x-ray experiment was carried out on a Syntex P21-FORTRAN automatic diffractometer. It has been shown that in the case of complexes of the di- and triacido types, enlargement of the radical r in the CCOO-group results predominantly in uranyl compounds having an island structure
