Neutron focus in beryllium in the field of relativistic electron radiation in a crystal

Description

It is shown that impulse fluxes of photoneutrons having large space-time and spectral density can be produced in the radiation field of relativistic electron (positrons) channeling in a crystal. Integral characteristics of neutron focus (NF) in beryllium are calculated. NF considerably exceeds by its parameters the neutron source on the base of heavy-current 800 MeV proton synchrotron of the Argon national laboratory of USA with the peak flux of p approximately 4x1016 neutron/cm2 and duration of pulse of tau approximately equal to 10-5-10-6 s. Intensity and flux in NF may be increased by an order due to more optimal choice of a crystal, spreading of neutron energy range and improvement of the electron beam emittance. The last is the most effective operation in the case of accumulative rings with single peak flux of approximately 10 1020 - 1021 neutron/cm2xs
