Description

The adiabatic potential barrier is determined for the 236U parent nucleus in the frame of the so called macroscopic-microscopic method. A two-center nuclear shape parametrization with five degrees of freedom is used in this context. The single particle levels are calculated with a new version of the superasymmetric two-center shell model based on Woods-Saxon potentials. The height of the barriers determined in the frame of the model are in excellent agreement with experimental data. In the region of the outer barrier the mass-asymmetry corresponds to a ratio for the masses of the nascent fragments of about 1.34. (authors)
