Description
A method for the determination of light isotopes in metals, based on the detection of ion-induced charge particle reaction products and/or backscattered ions with solid state nuclear track detectors is described. Various techniques of prompt reaction analysis for the determination of local or average concentrations, depth profiling and lateral distribution of light isotopes are discussed. The sensitivity of the method was found to be very high (down to at. ppm range). The method is illustrated using results of microlocalization of deuterium in metals by the 2H(3He,p)4He reaction.
